Live @ YardCity | The Make-Believe Spurs

SPARKLY ALT-FOLK + COUNTRY + ROCK all night with The Make Believe Spurs at YARDCITY from 6-9P, plus tons of other live music along McCulloch!

Let’s Meet the Spurs

What type of music is The Make-Believe Spurs?

We call it Sparkly Alt-Folk. We feature a really fun mix of covers and originals, three part harmonies, storytelling, and music that you can dance to.

How long have you been playing together?

Molly and I have been performing together since 2017, and Mavis jumped on board with drums/percussion/vocals to make it a band in 2022!

More about the band!

The Wallens (Brian and Molly) have performed at venues like Telluride Blues Fest, Cedar Point, Marquette Area Blues Fest, Woodtick Music Festival, the Black Squirrel Bluegrass and Americana Festival, Hiawatha Winter Roots, and many others. Mavis Farr is an accomplished performer in her own right, having toured and recorded with artists such as Cry on Cue/Bernie Larsen. Mavis adds tasteful percussion, snare, vocals, and sparkle to the mix.

Spurs' influences include the Avett Brothers, the Byrds, the Black Keys, Shovels and Rope, and singer-songwriters like Nathaniel Rateliff and John Prine. Their sound and setup is versatile, ranging from stripped down acoustic performances to electric-driven romps for the dance floor. You'll hear a fun mix of originals, covers, and original sounding covers.

Brian won 2nd place in the International Blues Challenge, and makes a pretty good latte. Molly is a classically-trained vocalist with experience in opera, and also an avid crocheter and crossword enthusiast. Mavis studied West African drums and percussion at Oakland University, and makes magic as a silversmith and jeweler. All three share a love of hats, boots, thrifted fashion, and good whiskey!
