What's the inspiration behind River Blend? How do you source and can you explain the roasting process?
Coffee is the inspiration! The more I learn about coffee, the more I love it. The journey from seed to cup is absolutely amazing. Coffee is so much more than a quick pick-me-up in the morning. It impacts lives across the globe.
We source our beans from around the world and use an importer to help with the logistics of getting them to us.
The roasting process we have developed is quite complex. We take a very scientific approach to it. Phase 1 would sample roasting and cupping the results to see if there is potential in that particular bean. If so, move to phase two, sample roasting & cupping to see what roast level suits the coffee best (light, medium, dark). Phase 3 is playing with a particular variable within the given roast, for example, if the coffee tastes best as a medium roast but is a bit earthy on the cupping table I might extend the drying time. There is a lot of trial and error that goes into developing a particular roast profile, but the end result is worth it!
My goal with our roastery/cafe is to create a coffee education center. I am so excited to have a place to be able to show off the journey coffee takes to get to us here in LHC.

My favorite part about First Friday is the community involvement. I love to see the street lined with everyone having a great time.
